Molly, our much-loved school therapy dog, took to the stage at yesterday’s BBC Make a Difference Awards, joining an inspiring group of volunteers, fundraisers and community champions from across the county.

Molly received a Highly Commended award in a category won by Eden Animal Rescue, a charity that does vital work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need. The recognition is a wonderful achievement and celebrates the positive difference Molly makes to life at Cockermouth School.

The awards evening shone a spotlight on the incredible individuals and organisations who go above and beyond to support others, both locally and further afield. Among those recognised were Andy’s Man Club, which provides vital support for men’s mental health, and Gary McKee, widely known as the ‘Marathon Man’ for his extraordinary fundraising challenges.

The event also saw two former Cockermouth School students playing an important role in celebrating these achievements. Olympic swimmer Luke Greenbank and Gladiators semi-finalist Finn Hutton were among the judges for different award categories, helping to recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups making a real difference in their communities.

It was a proud moment for Molly and a fantastic celebration of the compassion, generosity and community spirit that make Cumbria such a special place to live.

Congratulations to Molly, all the award winners and everyone nominated for their inspiring work!
