Strategically Resourced Provision for Autism
Learning Support and Autistic Provision
The Learning Support and Autistic Provision comprises of a custom built unit on the west side of the school, which opened in 2006.
The Provision was built specifically to support pupils who have been diagnosed as having an Autistic Spectrum Condition. Currently (2010) there are 27 pupils directed to the Provision by the Local Authority, as well as pupils who are from within the school catchment area. Within the SRP there are a variety of rooms designed to meet the needs of the ASC pupils as well as those pupils who have a variety of Special Educational Needs. These rooms comprise a life skills flat, four teaching classrooms, a practical teaching room, sensory room and a multi-gym.
The ethos of the department is to provide a caring, supportive environment with the objective of ensuring as much individual independence as possible.
Currently there are three teaching staff, one Principal Teaching Assistant, five Higher Level Teaching Assistants, 19 Senior Teaching Assistants an Admin Manager and an Admin Assistant. This provides a high level of support for pupils who are based in the SRP, withdrawn for specific lessons or who receive in-class support.
