Gifted & Talented
Cockermouth School Gifted & Talented Policy
At Cockermouth School we believe that all pupils should be provided with appropriate learning experiences. The ‘Gifted and Talented Policy’ provides guidance as to how we will meet the needs of our most able students and how we will allow them to access a more personalised learning experience which will help them to fulfil their potential.
With high quality teaching staff and the correct system of identification and support the policy is designed give all students the opportunity to be part of the scheme and to enhance the learning experience of the pupil on many levels including both in and out of class activities.
At Cockermouth School, the G&T register consists of two tiers. The ‘Gifted’ section contains pupils that are automatically selected using a pre-defined criterion which identifies them as being in the top 7% of the year group in KS3, 4 & 5 examinations related to CATS, English, Maths and Science. The talented section is reserved purely students who are ‘talented’ and excel in one particular subject and these pupils are nominated by their teachers who use their own departmental identification criteria.
