Healthy Schools
Cockermouth School aims to ensure the health and well-being of all students and staff at Cockermouth. The Healthy Schools Group is made up of staff and students and works to develop and promote healthy choices and a healthy lifestyle in the following ways:
- Through the curriculum – in all subjects, but particularly in Food technology, PE and Personal Development to ensure that the personal, social, sexual and emotional health needs of students are met
- Through healthy eating in the school canteen. The school is currently working with caterers Baxter-Storey towards Food For Life Partnership accreditation to promote good quality healthy dinners for all. Students are encouraged to drink water in school and join with GeoWatch and the Eco Team in growing food on site.
- Through exercise and sport. Healthy Schools supports the work of the PE Department, the SSCO, the duke of Edinburgh Scheme and others in providing opportunities for students to be fit and active.
- Through health provision. The school works with the school nurse and other health professionals to provide a drop-in centre and other support for students in school.
- Through staff professional development and welfare to ensure the well-being of staff.
